With the support of the Film Office of Jersey City and the Mayor’s Office, The Jersey Devil was shot throughout Jersey City earlier in 2014. One of the filming locations used was the Landmark Loews, which opened in 1929. This legendary theater continues to hold events today and will bring this Hollywood-style premiere to Journal Square, almost 85 years to the day of its opening. In keeping with Mayor Fulop’s vision of making Jersey City a “mecca” for film production, the creators of The Jersey Devil also utilized diverse neighborhoods throughout the city, including the Brightside Tavern in the Paulus Hook neighborhood, New Jersey City University in Greenville and City Hall. In addition to using NJCU as a location in the film, students attending NJCU were also involved in various aspects of the production. The cast and crew dined throughout the shoot on delicious food supplied entirely by Jersey City food vendors and many Jersey City residents from the surrounding location communities were used as extras in the film.
The Jersey Devil is a comedy starring veteran actors Chris Mulkey (Captain Phillips, Boardwalk Empire), David Chokachi (Baywatch) and Jack Mulcahy (Brothers McMullen) as well as Edvin Ortega (Orange is the New Black), award-winners Penelope Lagos (Stuck in the Middle) and Keith Collins (The Meat Puppet, Gravedigger).
The film is a comic take on the end of Lucifer’s reign as Hell’s leader. It opens when Lucifer’s term limits are up, a new devil takes over with a vision to re-brand and relocate Hell. After an exhaustive search, the new devil finds the perfect match in Jersey City, New Jersey. With the help of his slow witted Advocate and a beautiful waitress they begin construction on their new home in New Jersey as they prepare to collect new souls and challenge the Kingdom. Lucifer comes to Jersey to foil his plans and return Hell to its original location.
The Jersey Devil is directed by two-time New York Emmy winner Joseph Pepitone. Joseph also co-wrote the script with his brother Billy Pepitone. The Executive Producers are Jersey City’s own Michael Billy and Jarl Haugedal and Dorothy Fucito, Debbie Philips, Charles Anastasia, Larry Salvato, John Camera, Frank Sepe, Jessica Pell. Kimberly Clemente. Jeff Quinlan, Keith Collins, Ed Luster, Jay Andriani and Joseph Pepitone were producers. For tickets, please visit http://thejerseydevil.brownpapertickets.com/
