The City of Jersey City holds Second Annual “Soxcess” (Sock) Drive Collecting socks for those in need

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy will be holding a press conference at 9:30am, tomorrow, Thursday, December 12, 2012 announcing the Second Annual “Soxcess,” a sock drive that was conceived by Hudson County Prep student Jeremy Garriga.

“We are honored to facilitate bins for the Second Annual Sock drive,” said Mayor Healy. “Jeremy Garriga is another example that the youth are taking an active role in making changes throughout city and making a difference in many people’s lives.”

Jeremy Garriga, a high school Senior at Hudson County Prep, discovered that the little things each person does can truly help make a big difference in another’s life. Last year’s sock drive pulled in over 900 pairs of donated socks comforting the feet of homeless in need. This year, the Jersey City Free Public Library has joined the effort with the addition of three drop off locations at their branches.

With the addition of library sites, more socks can be collected and distributed to those in need. Donated socks will be distributed to coincide with the “Annual Point in Time Count of the Homeless,” throughout the Hudson County by January 30, 2013.
